CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The Southern Utah Men's Basketball team opened their season with an emphatic 96-68 win over the Mustangs of Western New Mexico. Six Thunderbirds scored double-digit points, and 17 Thunderbirds saw time on the court.

Top T-Birds
- Jamari Sibley was phenomenal in the first game for SUU. He led the team in points and rebounds and logged his second double-double as a Thunderbird with 18 points and 10 rebounds. He also had two assists, a steal, and a team-high three blocks.
- Tavi Jackson only played 19 minutes but poured in 15 points on 6-10 from the field.
- Dominique Ford knocked down 2 of 5 triples on his way to 12 points. He led the team with four assists and also had two steals.
Game Recap
SUU jumped out to a big lead early. Knocking down eight of their first 10 field goal attempts and the lead was 21-2 just five minutes into the contest. Thunderbirds held the Mustangs to 25 points in the first half on 29% from the field. Jamir Simpson and Tavi Jackson were both in double-digits in the first half.
The lead grew to as many as 34 on a Hercy Miller free throw to make the score 91-57. Miller finished with 12 points on 2-3 from three and had three rebounds and an assist.
The six Thunderbirds in double-digits were Brock Felder (12), Dominique Ford (12), Jamari Sibley (18), Tavi Jackson (15), Jamir Simpson (11), and Hercy Miller (12).
