Matchup History
The Panthers and the Thunderbirds have met twice before, with the T-Birds winning both matchups back in 1989 and 1990.
Last Time Out
SUU opened their season with a 96-68 win over Western New Mexico on Monday, November 4. The Panthers played a tough game against Rice, down 17 in the second half and cut the lead to three at one point, but ultimately fell, 70-77.Â
The Thunderbirds
SUU will be playing their second of four straight home games to start the season and are looking to add another one into the win column. Jamar Sibley was the story in the season opener, doing it all for the Thunderbirds. He played the most minutes with 22, had 18 points on 4-5 from three, pulled down 10 rebounds, and led the team with three blocked shots.
Tavi Jackson continues to look like a game-changing player for SUU. He played 19 minutes against WNMU and scored 15 points on 6-10 shooting from the field. Six players scored double-digit points for SUU, and as a team, shot 48% from the field and 38% from three.Â
Scout The Panthers
FIU went 11-22 a season ago and won a game in the CUSA conference tournament.Â
In their season opener against Rice, the Panthers were down by as many as 17 and stormed back to cut the lead to just three points, but they were unable to get closer than that.Â
Jayden Brewer led the way for the Panthers, playing 33 minutes and scoring 18 points, pulling down nine rebounds, with four assists and three steals. Dashon Gittens also scored 18 points on 6-15 from the field, and Travis Gray was the only other player to score double-digits. He had 15 points on 6-7 from the field and 3-3 from long range.Â
The Panthers love to play with tempo and will try to get out on a fast break any chance they can. Against Rice, they were in a full-court press for the majority of the game.Â
