CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah Gymnastics is set to make waves in the 2025 season, entering the year ranked No. 31 in the nation in the Women's Collegiate Gymnastics Association (WCGA) Preseason Coaches Poll. The Flippin' Birds will look to continue to earn their place among the top collegiate gymnastics programs. SUU is coming off of back-to-back Conference Championships and remains the top-ranked team in the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation.
Coach Scotty Bauman Said
"We are excited to start the season at #31 in the country; it gives us a chance to go out and show why we continually earn a spot in the postseason. I believe that we are a top-20 team in the country, and this early ranking will push our athletes to put it all out there and prove it."
The ranking reflects the confidence of coaches nationwide in Southern Utah's talent, depth, and potential. Coming off a strong 2024 season filled with individual and team successes, the Thunderbirds aim to build on their momentum as they pursue a third straight conference title and 13th straight postseason appearance.
Southern Utah's 2025 schedule features a mix of competitive home meets, including a battle with preseason #15 Stanford and challenging away matchups like the Best of Utah, giving fans plenty of opportunities to cheer on the Flippin' Birds. With a talented roster and excellent coaches, the team is poised to make a significant impact in the program's storied history this year.
The Thunderbirds will open their season on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at the Pacific Coast Challenge, a meet against Rutgers, Arizona, and Wilberforce in Oceanside, California. The first home meet of the season will be on February 7, 2025, when the Flippin' Birds take on Sacramento State in the America First Event Center.
