CEDAR CITY, Utah - After four straight games away from home, the Southern Utah University women's basketball team will return to the America First Event Center for a four-game homestand starting with games against Sam Houston State University and Park University Gilbert. The Thunderbirds will play the SHSU Bearkats on Monday, Dec. 16 at 6:30 p.m. and the Park University Gilbert Buccaneers on Friday, Dec. 20 at 2:00 p.m.

"We finished up finals and we're excited to be home this next week. Sam Houston is off to a strong start. They are a very aggressive team and play hard. We've had some good days of prep and I know the ladies are eager to play again."

Matchup History
The Thunderbirds
Having only played three games at home all year, Southern Utah currently stands at a 1-9 record. On Saturday, Dec. 7 against the University of Colorado, they shot 44.2% from the field and forced 17 turnovers.
Sydney Gandy has emerged as the leading scorer for the Thunderbirds, averaging 10.9 points per game and shooting 35.1% from the perimeter. Jaeden Brown serves as a defensive presence around the basket leading the team in both rebounds and blocks.
Scouting Report
Sam Houston Bearkats
With a 5-3 record, SHSU is undefeated at home and has yet to pick up a win on the road. They average 67.8 PPG and rack up a hefty 13.6 steals per game.
Kelley Kaila leads the Bearkats in scoring with 13 PPG, while Aysia Ward-Strong captains the defense, averaging 6.5 rebounds in addition to a total of 31 steals on the season.
Park University Gilbert Buccaneers
The 5-4 Buccaneers play in the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics and average 83.4 PPG. They shoot 40.1% from the field and average 43.8 RPG but have struggled with turnovers this year.
Averaging 18.1 and 17.4 points respectively, Savannah Huerta and Kayla Schroeder have combined for 74 three-pointers. Southern Utah will also have to watch out for Alynna Palacios, who averages 8.9 rebounds and 4.7 steals per game.
