CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The Thunderbirds had a lead at halftime, but a high-powered offensive attack from NAU proved too much, and the Thunderbirds dropped their first home game of the season, 83-75.
Head Coach Rob Jeter said
Top T-Birds
- Jamir Simpson had another quality performance, leading the team with 20 points and nine rebounds.
- Tavi Jackson battled a left wrist injury and scored 16 points on 6-9 from the field and 2-4 from deep.
- Jeffrey JT Langston Jr scored 13 points in his second start of the year.
Game Recap
Langston scored the first seven points for SUU, but it was a back-and-forth affair for the game's first ten minutes.
The Thunderbirds built the lead up to 10 points, and then Jamari Sibley went on a personal 5-0 run, making a three and a layup, and with less than four minutes to go in the first half, SUU held a 15-point lead.
NAU would not go away quietly; they closed the half on a 15-3 run that was capped off by an unreal buzzer-beating three from Trent McLaughlin, and suddenly, the Lumberjacks had all the momentum heading into the break.
Jayden Jackson had back-to-back triples for NAU, and with 10 minutes left in the game, the Lumberjacks had a five-point lead. The Thunderbirds did their best to stay attatched, but could not string together multiple stops, and eventually the lead was 13 points with just two minutes left.
The Thunderbirds are no longer undefeated at home and complete their non-conference slate at 8-6.
