Men's Basketball Home For Critical Two Game Stretch

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The Men's Basketball team will have two games at home this week, fighting to stay alive in the WAC playoff race.

On Thursday, Feb 15, SUU will play host to the Redhawks of Seattle U in the America First Event Center, and then on Saturday, Feb 17, Utah Valley comes to town for an in-state showdown. Both contests will tip at 6:30 p.m.

Both games will be available to livestream on ESPN+, or you can follow along with live stats.

SUU is currently 9-15 overall and 4-9 in conference play. We sit in ninth place in the WAC standings, one game behind Utah Valley for the eighth and final spot to WAC Vegas.

Redhawks
Seattle U is 14-10 overall and 7-6 in conference play. They are coming off a loss to Tarleton St at home. The Redhawks are the only conference team to beat GCU this season, which they did back on Jan 20.

Seattle won the first matchup against SUU, winning 73-63 in Seattle. Cameron Tyson led all scorers with 22 points and Brandton Chatfield added 18 and eight rebounds.

SUU was led by Zion Young, who scored 14, Prophet Johnson added 12, and Chazz Hutchison scored 11.

The two teams matched up on Dec 2, 2023, just seven games into the season.

The Redhawks score 75 points per game and only give up 68. They also shoot nearly 35% from three and 45% from the floor. They average 37 rebounds per contest, giving them a +4 margin on the glass.

Tyson averages 17 points per game on 40/38/86 percent shooting splits. Alex Schumacher leads the team with 115 assists on the year and is second in scoring at 14.5 points per game. John Christofillis is scoring 13 points per game and making 39% of his three points attempts. Kobe Williamson is a significant presence inside, averaging 10 points per game and over six rebounds.

Wolverines
Utah Valley is 10-14 on the year and 5-8 in conference play. They're coming off a much-needed win over Abilene Christian after losing four in a row. They will play at California Baptist before traveling to Cedar City.

SUU and UVU matched up in Orem on Jan 6, with UVU coming out on top 80-62. SUU held a three-point lead at halftime but only scored 24 points in the second half compared to 45 for UVU.

Four different Wolverines scored double-digits: Caleb Stone-Carrawell scored 17, Drake Allen (16), Trevin Dorius (14), and Tanner Toolson (14).

SUU was led by Young, who scored 17 points and had four rebounds. Fallah added 14 and six, and Ford pitched in with 12 and four.

UVU has a negative point differential on the year, only scoring 68 points per game.

Stone-Carrawell leads them in scoring at 12 a game, with Allen not far behind at 11. No Wolverine shoots better than 32% from three.
