CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University women's basketball team will be on the road this week for a pair of games. First up, the Thunderbirds head to Washington to take on Seattle U on Thursday, Feb. 15 at 7 p.m. MT. Then, SUU travels to Orem to face in-state rival Utah Valley on Saturday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. MT.

Southern Utah currently ranks ninth overall in the Western Athletic Conference with a 6-16 record and a 4-9 effort in conference play.
This week the Thunderbirds will face the Redhawks and Wolverines, who rank 10th and 11th overall respectively.

Daylani Ballena ranks sixth in the conference in points (14.9) and eighth in assists (3.6) per game.

Ava Uhrich pours in 13.1 points and a team-high 7.4 rebounds each game for SUU. Uhrich ranks fifth in the conference in field goal percentage, knocking down 47.7 percent of her attempts.

Samantha Johnston adds 9.5 points, 3.0 assists, and 4.4 rebounds per contest.

Southern Utah vs. Grand Canyon
First Half
Grand Canyon jumped out to an 8-0 lead to start the game. Then, Ashley Banks added a pair of buckets to help fuel a 5-0 Thunderbirds run to make the score 8-5 with 3:51 on the clock. The Lopes scored the next six points to take a 14-5 advantage at the end of the first period.
The two squads traded buckets early in the second quarter as the Lopes extended their lead to 27-16 with 3:44 left in the half. Shiho Isono poured in five points to spark a 7-2 sprint for the Thunderbirds to get within six, 29-23, late in the quarter. GCU held a 32-23 lead at the break.
Second Half
The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair. Southern Utah scored seven of the next 11 points to trim GCU's advantage to 36-30 with 6:42 on the clock. After the Lopes were able to push their lead back to double-digits (43-32), the 'Birds mounted a 12-6 stretch to get within five, 49-44, with 41 seconds remaining in the third. However, that was as close as SUU would get as Grand Canyon outscored the Thunderbirds 28-17 the rest of the way to claim a 77-61 victory.
SCOUTING REPORT: SEATTLE U REDHAWKS

The Redhawks are 2-20 on the season with a 2-11 effort in Western Athletic Conference play.

Seattle U scores 61.5 points per game, while its opponents average 75.1 points.

Mya Moore leads the team in points (12.0) and rebounds (7.3) each game.
SCOUTING REPORT: UTAH VALLEY WOLVERINES

Utah Valley is 8-14 overall and 3-10 in conference play. The Wolverines will face California Baptist on Thursday before the contest against the 'Birds on Saturday.

The Wolverines average 59.3 points each game, while their opponents score 62.8 points.

Kylee Mabry leads the team in scoring with 7.6 points per game.
HISTORY

The Thunderbirds are 2-0 all-time against the Redhawks. Southern Utah defeated Seattle U 83-56 earlier this season.

Southern Utah leads the all-time series against Utah Valley 18-9. The Thunderbirds have emerged victorious in the past three outings versus the Wolverines, including a 71-58 win in Cedar City in January.
