CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- SUU Men's Basketball couldn't overcome a slow first half where they shot just 28% from the field, ultimately leading to a 68-78 loss to Seattle U.
The Thunderbirds now slide to 9-16 overall and 4-10 in conference play.
"I still really believe in this team; I know what we have in our locker room. We have a group of guys that never quit. We faced a deficit at halftime and had their lead to just two points. We have to learn how to play winning basketball for 40 minutes. But we are close, and I still believe this group can do something special." Said Head Coach Rob Jeter.
Game Recap
The Redhawks led by 14 at the half, but a 14-2 run to start the second half saw the Thunderbirds trailing by two. But a quick 5-0 spurt from Cameron Tyson for Seattle would push the lead back to seven, and the Redhawks didn't look back.
Statistical Recap
SUU was much better shooting the ball in the second half, finishing at 40% on the game, but missing 10 free throws in the contest, some of which came during big runs for SUU, was a crucial factor in the loss.
14 second chance points for the Redhawks came during critical stretches and were very costly for the Thunderbirds. Seattle U also made 11 threes in the contest, finishing at 44% from deep.
The Thunderbirds were led by Jamari Sibley, who finished with 17 points and seven rebounds to go along with a steal and a blocked shot. Dominique Ford poured in 16 points of his own and dealt a team-high five assists on the night. Zion Young finished with 11 points in just 17 minutes.
