Thunderbirds Work To Get Back In The Win Column At UT Arlington

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The Men's Basketball team looks to get back in the win column and keep their playoff hopes alive in Arlington, Texas, on Thursday, Feb 21, at 6 p.m. when they take on UT Arlington.

The Mavericks are 13-13 on the year and 8-7 in conference play. They currently sit in fourth place in the WAC standings and are coming off a win at UTRGV, 89-70. 

SUU sits 10th in the WAC standings, a game and a half behind Abilene Christian and two games behind Utah Valley for the eighth spot.

They score nearly 75 points per game, shooting 42% from the field and 33% from three. 

Led by Shemar Wilson who has 53 blocks on the year, UTA averages 3.8 blocks per game. Dajuan Gordon leads the team in scoring at 12.3 a game and rebounding at 8.3 per contest. 

Wilson scores nearly 12 per game on 52% from the field, and Makaih Williams averages 11.2 points per game while leading the team in three-point shooting at 45%. 

Phillip Russell has missed a lot of the season due to the transfer eligibility ruling as well as injury but averaged 13 points per game in 14 contests played. 

Russell scored 22 points on 7-13 from the field in the first meeting between the two teams, including 5-10 from three. Gordon tacked on 18 points and 10 rebounds in the 76-68 win for the Mavericks.
