LAS VEGAS, Nevada – The Southern Utah Softball dropped both games on day two of the Rebel Classic. The Thunderbirds fell to Tulsa in game one 15-5 and lost to the host UNLV Rebels 10-2. Southern Utah has a 7-7 record on the year following day two of the tournament, with one more game to play in Las Vegas.
Sophomore Emily Gonzalez and senior Miranda Lopez led Southern Utah at the plate, picking up two hits and two RBIs each. Also swinging the bat well for the Thunderbirds was junior Karmyna Becerra, who collected two hits and scored twice in game two.

"These were tough losses today. We are seeing some growth in our game, but we have a lot to work on. This is why we have a pre-season."
Game 1 Recap
In a high-scoring affair, Tulsa led early on, with Morgan's RBI single and Edwards' sacrifice fly giving them a 2-0 lead in the first inning. They extended their lead to 7-0 in the second inning with a flurry of hits, including Park's two-RBI single and Skaggs' two-RBI single. Southern Utah managed to claw back with an unearned run in the 2nd inning, but Tulsa continued to pile on the runs with Bearpaw's RBI double and Cramer's two-run homer in the third inning, making it 10-1. Although Tulsa added more runs in subsequent innings, Southern Utah mounted a late rally in the fourth, sparked by Miranda Lopez's two-RBI double, closing the gap to 12-5. However, Tulsa's offense remained relentless, adding three more runs in the fifth inning to secure a 15-5 final score
Game 2 Recap
In a matchup between Southern Utah and UNLV, the game started with Southern Utah taking an early lead in the 1st inning as Emily Gonzalez's single brought Karmyna Becerra in to score. UNLV surged ahead in the fourth inning with Farrell's homer, followed by Martinez's single, bringing the score to 1-4. Southern Utah fought back in the fifth inning with another RBI single from Gonzalez, but UNLV ended the game, scoring six runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Next Up
The Thunderbirds will wrap up the Rebel Classic on Sunday morning with a final game against Santa Clara. First pitch is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. MT.
