CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- SUU began their final home stretch of the season hosting the Wildcats of Abilene Christian and fell 77-68 in the America First Event Center.
"We have battled all year, but we can never give up; today, it felt like we gave up a little bit," said Head Coach Rob Jeter.
Game Recap
A back-and-forth first half came to a close with the Wildcats hitting a corner triple at the buzzer to extend their lead to 38-32, and you could feel the energy in the AFEC evaporate.
The second half was an uphill battle for the Thunderbirds; with ACU's lead growing to as many as 13, SUU couldn't regain the lead for the remainder of the contest.
Injuries played a big part in the contest, with Jamari Sibley and Chazz Hutchison sitting out of the game.
Statistical Recap
SUU had four players score double digits on the night, with Zion Young leading the way at 19. Young also had to miss quite a few minutes in the first half due to being poked in the eye.
Braden Housley, Parsa Fallah, and Dominique Ford each scored 10 for SUU.
Prophet Johnson led the way rebounding with five in just 18 minutes.
SUU was outrebounded by 17 in the game, primarily due to the absence of Sibley and Hutchison.
The Thunderbirds shot 46% from the field compared to 52% for the Wildcats. ACU only averages five made threes per game, and shoot the deep ball at just 33% on the season, but tonight were able to make seven of their 10 three-point attempts.
Up Next
The Thunderbirds will be at home for the last time this season on March 2 when Tarleton St comes to town. Tip-off will be at 6:30 p.m.
