ABILENE, Texas - The Southern Utah University women's basketball team suffered a 75-42 setback against Abilene Christian on Thursday, Feb. 29 at Moody Coliseum. The Thunderbirds move to 7-19 overall and 5-12 in Western Athletic Conference play, while the Wildcats improve to 12-14 on the season and 8-9 in conference play.
HEAD COACH TRACY MASON SAYS
"I was disappointed in our fight tonight. Shots weren't falling but that can't dictate our defensive efforts. We obviously don't have a lot of healthy bodies right now but we have the ability to be better than what we showed tonight."

Daylani Ballena and Ashley Banks each scored 11 points to lead the Thunderbirds offensively.

Banks recorded a team-high nine rebounds and two blocks.

Samantha Johnston and Ballena tallied three assists apiece to lead the team.
GAME RECAP
After the Wildcats scored the first six points of the game, the Thunderbirds responded with an 8-2 run to tie the score at 8-8. Ashley Banks led SUU with five points in the quarter as Abilene Christian took a 24-13 advantage heading into the second quarter.
The Thunderbirds relied on a balanced attack as they cut the Wildcats lead to five, 27-22, with 4:47 left in the half. ACU would go on to score ten of the next 11 points to go up 37-23 at the break.
Abilene Christian had a strong second half, outscoring Southern Utah 38-19 to claim a 75-42 victory.
