CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- Southern Utah Men's Basketball Team will hit the road for a two-game WAC trip, first stopping in St. George, Utah, to take on Utah Tech on Thursday, Feb 8 at 7 p.m. and then continue to Phoenix, Arizona to play No.1 seeded Grand Canyon on Saturday, Feb 10 at 6 p.m.
Both games will be available to stream on ESPN+ or follow along with live stats.Â
The Thunderbirds are currently 9-13 and 4-7 in the WAC; they sit in a three-way tie with Utah Valley and Utah Tech for the seventh spot.Â
Utah Tech
The Trailblazers visited Cedar City on Jan 18 and lost 75-65. Dominique Ford and Prophet Johnson led the way, scoring 23 points each.Â
The Trailblazers are 1-4 since the matchup with SUU and are coming off a loss against UT Arlington 66-87.Â
Three players average double-digits for the Trailblazers: Noa Gonsalves (12.0), Tanner Christensen (11.2), and Beon Riley (10.2). Riley has missed the last few games with an ankle injury and will be a game-time decision for Thursday.Â
Utah Tech is giving up 77 points per contest and allowing 17 free throws per game. Both of which are strengths for SUU. In the first meeting, the Thunderbirds were 30-35 from the free-throw line.Â
Grand Canyon
GCU has also already played the Thunderbirds in Cedar City and came away with a 75-96 victory.Â
GCU is 21-2 overall and 11-1 in conference play. They have yet to lose any game at home; they're a perfect 11-0.Â
Parsa Fallah had 24 points and seven rebounds in the first meeting but was out-dueled by Gabe McGlothan, who had 18 and 10. Tyon Grant-Foster led all scorers with 27 on 11-19 from the field.Â
Seattle U is the only WAC team to beat GCU, mainly due to the Redhawks going 10-20 from three. If the Lopes have any weakness, it is that they shoot just 33% from three as a team and only make six threes per game.Â
They make the second-most free throws per game in the country at 19.3.Â
Grant-Foster leads the conference in scoring at 19 points per game.Â
