CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Southern Utah Softball team lost 7-2 in the final game of its WAC opening series against Stephen F. Austin. The Thunderbirds won the series two games to one.
The Thunderbirds were led at the plate by junior Karmyna Becerra, who scored two hits on the day and picked up both RBIs with a home run. Laurie Cooke and Emily Gonzalez also had hits in the game for SUU. In the circle, Freshman Emily Delgado got the loss despite a solid start to the game. She pitched six innings, keeping the score close until the seventh when SFA turned on the offense.

Stephen F. Austin picked up a victory against Southern Utah with a final score of 7-2. The game kicked off with Stephen F. Austin's Cully scoring off Telford's single in the 2nd inning, giving the Lumberjacks an early lead. Southern Utah quickly responded in the 3rd inning as Karmyna Becerra drove an impressive homer, bringing in Laurie Cooke and putting the T-Birds ahead 2-1.
The 5th inning saw a resurgence from SFA. Coe's single brought in Reneau, tying the game at 2-2. They continued their momentum as Telford's second single of the game brought in Coe, pushing them ahead 3-2.
In the 6th inning, Benson's single extended the Stephen F. Austin lead, making it 4-2. In the 7th inning, SFA widened the gap to 7-2, securing their victory.
Next Up
The Thunderbirds will continue WAC play next weekend with a series at California Baptist in Riverside, California. The two teams will square off for a doubleheader on Friday, March 22, and wrap up the series on Saturday, March 23. The games will be broadcast on ESPN+.
