Riverside, California – The Southern Utah Softball team fell in the final game against California Baptist 6-0. The Thunderbirds moved to 12-14 on the year while the Lancers improved to 17-16 on the season.
The standout performer for the T-Birds was Ariyana Miranda, who collected two hits on the day. Delaney Baker got the loss, pitching four innings, giving up two runs on two hits, and striking out one.
Scoring Summary
The opening frames saw Southern Utah's bats make some noise, particularly with Emily Gonzalez's sharp single up the middle in the top of the 1st inning. However, despite showing promise, they were unable to convert opportunities into runs.
On the flip side, California Baptist wasted no time picking up the lead, capitalizing on key moments to notch two runs in the bottom of the 1st inning, setting the tone early in the game.
Southern Utah fought valiantly but struggled to find their offensive rhythm, mustering only six hits throughout the matchup. Despite loading the bases at times, they couldn't push across any runs, leaving a total of eight runners stranded on base.
As the game progressed, California Baptist continued to apply pressure, adding to their lead with additional runs in the 5th and 6th innings.
Despite Southern Utah's efforts to mount a comeback, they couldn't overcome California Baptist's solid pitching and resilient defense, resulting in a shutout loss.

The Thunderbirds will continue on the road next week, starting with a single game at the University of Utah on Tuesday, March 26, before a weekend series at UT Arlington on Friday and Saturday, March 29 and 30.
