Softball Drops Series Finale

Southern Utah Softball is Presented by Jennifer Davis ERA Realty

CEDAR CITY, Utah—The Thunderbirds took on Seattle University on Saturday in a rubber match. The Redhawks took home the 12-5 win with some key hits in big spots. The Thunderbirds move to 17-21 on the season with a 6-11 record in WAC conference play.

Freshman Taralyn Ollison had an impressive day at the plate, picking up two hits and an RBI. Senior Miranda Lopez and freshman Arianna Ramirez each collected a pair of hits as well. Junior Karmyna Becerra had the hit of the day with a long home run in the first inning. Freshman Delaney Baker started the game in the circle for the T-Birds and got the loss, pitching two innings and striking out two.

Coach Don Don Williams Said

"The team showed a lot of resilience and grit this weekend. We saw a lot of pitches off of Seattle's pitchers and found ways to stay alive."

"We had too many left on base and could not find a way to have timely hitting."

Game Summary

Southern Utah started strong in the first inning with Karmyna Becerra's homer, taking the lead 1-0. However, Seattle surged ahead in the second and third innings, scoring multiple runs with notable plays, including Garcia's two RBI due to an error and Wilson's RBI single. By the fourth inning, Seattle U extended their lead further with Spadafora's homer, making it 6-1.

In the sixth inning, Seattle U continued to score, adding four more runs with hits from Wilson, Frankenberger, Morris, and Fitch, bringing the score to 10-1. However, Southern Utah managed to make a comeback effort in the bottom of the sixth, scoring three runs with hits from Laurie Cooke and Emily Gonzalez, reducing the deficit to 10-4.

In the seventh inning, Seattle U secured their victory with J. Wehn's double, bringing in two more runs, making it 12-4. Southern Utah managed to score one more run in the bottom of the seventh with Taralyn Ollison's single, but it wasn't enough, as the game concluded with Seattle winning 12-5.
