Thunderbirds Top Texans in Tight Conference Tilt

Southern Utah Softball is Presented by Jennifer Davis ERA Realty

STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Southern Utah opened the three-game set with the Texans on Friday afternoon with a win. The Thunderbirds took down Tarleton State in game one 4-3. The Two teams began game two and played the first inning and a half before storms rolled in to postpone the contest. Game two will be resumed at 8:00 a.m. MT on Saturday, May 4.

Sophomore Emily Gonzalez led the T-Birds in hits during game one with two singles. Juniors Karmyna Becerra and Ariyana Miranda drove in the runs, each picking up two RBIs by way of the home run. Freshman Taralyn Ollison also collected a hit in the game.

Junior Keimon Winston picked up the win in relief for the Thunderbirds. Winston pitched 2.2 innings without allowing a hit and struck out one batter. Freshman Emily Delgado started the game for SUU, pitching 4.1 innings, surrendering three runs on six hits while striking out two batters.

Coach Don Don Williams Said

"Great win in game one. Myna and Ari Miranda came up big with clutch hits when we needed them."

Road To Seattle

The Thunderbirds still haven't clinched a playoff spot, with game two being postponed today. Southern Utah sits tied for the seventh seed in the tournament with Stephen F. Austin. The Thunderbirds hold the tiebreaker and are in control of their own destiny as they square off with Tarleton in the remainder of game two and game three. If the Thunderbirds win either game, they will be in the playoffs. The Thunderbirds could also clinch a playoff spot with a loss by SFA in their final game with California Baptist.
