STEPHENVILLE, Texas—Southern Utah opened the three-game set with the Texans on Friday afternoon with a win. The Thunderbirds took down Tarleton State in game one 4-3. The Two teams began game two and played the first inning and a half before storms rolled in to postpone the contest. Game two will be resumed at 8:00 a.m. MT on Saturday, May 4.
Sophomore Emily Gonzalez led the T-Birds in hits during game one with two singles. Juniors Karmyna Becerra and Ariyana Miranda drove in the runs, each picking up two RBIs by way of the home run. Freshman Taralyn Ollison also collected a hit in the game.
Junior Keimon Winston picked up the win in relief for the Thunderbirds. Winston pitched 2.2 innings without allowing a hit and struck out one batter. Freshman Emily Delgado started the game for SUU, pitching 4.1 innings, surrendering three runs on six hits while striking out two batters.

Road To Seattle
The Thunderbirds still haven't clinched a playoff spot, with game two being postponed today. Southern Utah sits tied for the seventh seed in the tournament with Stephen F. Austin. The Thunderbirds hold the tiebreaker and are in control of their own destiny as they square off with Tarleton in the remainder of game two and game three. If the Thunderbirds win either game, they will be in the playoffs. The Thunderbirds could also clinch a playoff spot with a loss by SFA in their final game with California Baptist.
Game Summary
Southern Utah's softball team had an exciting game against Tarleton State. In the top of the 1st inning, Emily Gonzalez walked, and Karmyna Becerra came to the plate and hit a home run to left field, bringing in two runs and giving the T-Birds the early lead. Tarleton State's Dickerson singled to left center in the bottom of the 4th inning, bringing in one run and giving the Texans hope. In the bottom of the 5th inning, Tarleton State's Trull doubled to left center, bringing in two runs and putting the home team on top.
Ariyana Miranda hit her eleventh home run of the season in the top of the 6th inning, bringing in two runs and regaining the lead for Southern Utah. Keimon Winston was solid for the Thunderbirds, holding the Texans scoreless for the last 2.2 innings, leaving the final score at 4-3 in favor of the T-Birds.
Next Up
The Thunderbirds will finish the rest of game two on Saturday, May 4, before playing game three with the Texans. There is still much to play for, as both teams are on the verge of securing a spot in the WAC tournament that begins next week.
