CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Western Athletic Conference has released accolades for the 2024 softball season. Southern Utah sophomore Emily Gonzalez earned a spot on the All-WAC first team for her performance this year. 

Head Coach Don Don Williams Said

"Emily has been one of our most consistent players throughout our lineup. She is a tough out and continues to come through for us time and time again. I am so proud of her for earning this award. I can't think of a better person to be our program's first 1st Team All-WAC player." 

As a freshman in 2023, Gonzalez was a star for the T-Birds, hitting .383 and belting nine home runs. For her incredible freshman campaign, she earned a second-team All-WAC selection. 

Gonzalez returned to Cedar City for the 2024 season, looking to continue to be a force for the Thunderbirds. Despite a slower start, Gonzalez maintained a high batting average and slugging percentage throughout the season. Gonzalez finished the regular season with a team-leading 11 doubles. She added three home runs to her career total on her way to a .371 batting average. Gonzalez has produced an impressive 26 RBIs on the season.

Next Up

The Thunderbirds will open the WAC tournament against in-state rival Utah Tech on Wednesday, May 8, at 2:00 p.m. MT. Southern Utah split the doubleheader against the Trailblazers earlier in the season played in St. George. The winner of the matchup will continue into the double elimination bracket, playing the host team, Seattle, while the losing team will be finished for the season.
