SEATTLE, WASHINGTON -- The Thunderbirds fell to 1-3 in WAC play after a tough 75-52 loss at Seattle U.
Head Coach Rob Jeter said
"They came out and just wanted it more than we did early on. We teach forcing tough two-point shots, and they were getting whatever looks they wanted. So we need to be better defensively."
Top T-Birds
- Brock Felder set a career-high in blocks with SIX.
- Jamir Simpson led the Thunderbirds in scoring with 15 points to go along with five rebounds.
- Tavi Jackson scored 13 points and pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.
Game Recap
Neither team could get any stops to start the game; at the under-16 media timeout, the score was 14-9, with the Redhawks leading.
Seattle U then ratcheted things up on the defensive end, holding the Thunderbirds to just 22 points in the first half on 30% from the field. While on offense, the Redhawks were scorching hot. Shooting 58% from the field and 56% from three in the first half. They scored 47 first-half points.
The second half was a lot more of the same, only the Redhawks cooled off a little bit. They went 0-6 from three in the second half but were still pesky defensively and did a stellar job of making everything difficult. The Thunderbirds did have a favorable scoring stretch sparked by Jamir Simpson, with little dashes of Tavi Jackson and Hercy Miller, but the closest SUU would get is 19 points.
Seattle U proved too much for the Thunderbirds and ended with a 75-52 win.
