CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah redshirt senior edge rusher Lando Brown has been named the UAC Defensive Player of the Week, following a dominant performance in the Thunderbirds' overtime victory at North Alabama on Saturday. The honor also marks the sixth straight week that Southern Utah has earned a conference weekly award, highlighting the program's continued momentum down the stretch of the season.

He's relentless, he's physical, and he shows up in the biggest moments when we need him most. Our entire defense feeds off his energy and effort. This recognition is well deserved, and we're proud of the way he has led our football team."
Brown was a force throughout the contest, delivering one of the most impressive defensive outings in the conference this year. He tallied 11 total tackles, including three tackles for loss, and added two crucial sacks that helped spark Southern Utah's late-game rally and eventual 36-34 win. His relentless pressure consistently disrupted the Lions' offense and proved pivotal in securing the Thunderbirds' sixth consecutive conference victory.
The award caps off a phenomenal regular season for Brown, who has established himself as one of the premier defensive players in the FCS. Through 11 games, the redshirt senior recorded 55 tackles, an outstanding 18 tackles for loss, and 14 sacks—all team-leading marks and among the top totals nationwide. Brown currently leads the entire FCS in sacks per game (1.27) and has amassed 11 quarterback hurries, further highlighting his disruptive presence off the edge. His standout play also earned him a spot on the Walter Camp FCS Player of the Year Watch List earlier this week.
Brown's weekly honor adds to Southern Utah's remarkable run of individual awards and further cements his role as a cornerstone of the Thunderbirds' defensive success.
