CEDAR CITY, Utah - Off to an outstanding start to the season, the 5-1 Southern Utah women's basketball team will look to continue its streak during a Saturday, Nov. 29, matchup with the 1-8 Nelson Warriors at 2:00 p.m. in the America First Event Center.

The Thunderbirds
Off to one of their most impressive starts in recent history, SUU is 5-1 for the first time since the 2016-2017 season. Last time out, they fended off Cal Poly 85-80 in an overtime thriller.
Southern Utah's high-scoring offense averages 83.7 points, but it's allowed a relatively high 68.5 points per game defensively. The Thunderbirds have proven accurate from the field, draining 44% of their shots, but their greatest strength has been at the glass, where they record 46.5 boards per competition.
SUU has also performed well when capitalizing on opponent mistakes, averaging 16.5 points off turnovers per game.
Leading Southern Utah's scoring, sophomore Sierra Chambers racks up an average of 16 points. Juniors Brooklyn Fely and Ava Uhirch provide a strong paint presence, bringing down 8.8 rebounds each game.

Nelson Warriors
With a 1-8 record, Nelson has struggled through their start to the season and will look to turn things around as they approach conference play. Facing LIFE Pacific on Monday, the Warriors battled to a 62-53 loss.
Working to find a rhythm, Nelson scores 57.6 points a game and allows 66.9. They average a solid 36.1 rebounds per game.
Freshman Juliana Kirker adds a leading scoring presence for the Warriors, and senior Tatiana Ayala has dominated the glass.
