CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University Women's Basketball team dropped a 74-53 matchup with Tarleton State University on Feb. 1 at home. The Thunderbirds now sit at 4-17, with a 2-6 Western Athletic Conference record, while the Texans jump to 14-9 overall and 5-3 in the conference.

Hitting on both of her three-point attempts, Daylani Ballena scored 12 points.

Off the bench, Sierra Chambers put together a solid game with three assists, two scores, and two rebounds.

First Half
In the first quarter, Sydney Gandy kicked off the Thunderbird scoring with an arching three-pointer, but Tarleton's strong scoring boosted the Texans to an early 19-12 lead.
After a slow start to SUU's second quarter, Tarleton State pulled ahead to a 14-point lead, but an Ava Uhrich three jumpstarted Southern Utah's offense. Daylani Ballena added a triple as the Thunderbirds fought back into range, with TSU leading 34-24 at the half.
Second Half
Following the halftime break, Uhrich found a groove, adding four more points to her total, and freshmen Kortney Doman and Sierra Chambers each found the basket. However, the Texans extended their lead to 53-40 by the end of the third.
Uhrich continued to pour on points in the fourth quarter, but Southern Utah couldn't slow Tarleton's attack as they emerged on top, winning 74-53.
