CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University Women's Basketball team poured on 78 points in a dominant showing against the Utah Tech University Trailblazers, winning the home showdown 78-51 on Feb. 27. With the victory, SUU extended their win-streak to four, holding an 8-19 overall record and a 6-8 record in the Western Athletic Conference. Meanwhile UTU's loss dropped them to 5-21 overall and 1-12 in the conference.

Off the bench, freshman Sierra Chambers had her best game of the year, totaling 16 points on five triples and a free throw.

Daylani Ballena racked up a season-high seven assists to go along with 13 points and two steals.

Southern Utah shot 63.2% from the three-point line, and five Thunderbirds found double-digit scoring by night's end.

First Half
Uhrich started the potent Thunderbird scoring attack with four points to open the game before Samantha Johnston and Ballena sank early threes. Another triple from Johnston and clean team ball movement boosted Southern Utah to a stunning 25-8 lead by the end of the first quarter.
The Thunderbirds didn't let up in the second quarter, raining down seven three-point makes on only nine attempts. Chambers drained three-straight triples out of the gate before Johnston and Ava Uhrich took the reins for scores of their own, surging to a 32-point lead at 54-22.
Second Half
SUU remained sound defensively coming out of the halftime break but quieted down on the offensive end. Jaeden Brown scored seven third-quarter points while Ballena scored six, keeping Southern Utah ahead 69-35.
Chambers landed her fifth three of the game to start the fourth quarter for the Thunderbirds before Coach Mason subbed her bench in for valuable minutes. Freshman Denver Anderson capped off the impressive Thunderbird perimeter attack with one final three, pushing Southern Utah ahead to a 78-51 win.

The Thunderbirds will play their final home game of the season against the rival Utah Valley University Wolverines on Saturday, March 1 at 6:30 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN+ and a special senior night presentation will take place before tipoff.
