Thunderbirds Head To California To Battle Lancers And Then Return Home To Face The Wildcats

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Men's Basketball team will look to avenge a home loss to the Lancers of California Baptist in Riverside before returning home to take on the Abilene Christian Wildcats.

Head Coach Rob Jeter said

"A lot of teams around the country are in a similar spot we are. We know the level we can play at, but are at a tough point in the season with guys being hurt and fatigue weighing on us. This is where teams can separate themselves and we will find out what we are made of. Excited to be back at home Saturday, lets pack the AFEC!"

Scout The Lancers

CBU has won its last two contests, on the road against the Thunderbirds and at home against ACU.

In the first matchup against SUU, former Thunderbird Martel Williams scored 16 points in just 16 minutes and was a perfect 6-6 from the field. AJ Braun, a 6'9 forward, was a force inside, scoring 16 points and grabbing 10 rebounds, including five offensive.

Dominique Daniels Jr., who leads the WAC in scoring, was held to just three points on 1-8 from the field.

Since conference play started, the Lancers have been shooting 44% from the field and holding teams to a league-leading 64 points per game.

Scout The Wildcats

ACU is currently on a two-game losing skid, most recently a 20-point loss coming at California Baptist. The Wildcats lone conference win game at home against Tarleton State.

The Wildcats have a -9.14 point differential in conference play.  Quion Williams and Leonardo Bettiol lead ACU in scoring, both averaging 14 points per game. Williams shoots 48% from the floor, and Bettiol shoots 56%.

Hunter Jack Madden is their best three-point shooter. He has 33 makes on the year and averages eight points per game.

ACU averages 70 points per game in conference play.

The Thunderbirds

SUU has been without Dominique Ford and Tavi Jackson for the last three games, and the loss has been noticeable. The Thunderbirds have yet to reach the 70-point threshold since the injuries.

Jamir Simpson has been taking most of the scoring load, and is now up to 17 points per game which is good enough for second in the conference, he is also averaging 4.8 rebounds per game.

Hercy Miller has replaced Ford in the starting lineup and has averaged just under 10 points per game in those starts. Lorenzo Abellar has taken the place of Jackson and has scored 13, 6, and 5 points in his starts.
