CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah University gymnasts Mia Hampton and Niya Randolph have once again been recognized for their outstanding performances, earning Mountain Pacific Sports Federation (MPSF) weekly awards for Week Nine. Hampton was named Freshman of the Week for the sixth time this season, while Randolph secured her fourth Gymnast of the Week honor.

"We're so grateful to the MPSF for recognizing Niya and Mia's hard work. Niya's consistency makes her one of the best all-around gymnasts in the conference, and Mia's confidence as a freshman is remarkable. We're excited to keep building as we head into the final stretch of the season."

Randolph's Dominance in the All-Around
Randolph delivered two stellar all-around performances, leading the Thunderbirds to victories over Sacramento State and UC Davis. She opened the week by scoring an impressive 39.350 against Sacramento State, highlighted by a 9.900 on bars and a 9.875 on floor. She then raised the bar even higher in the meet against UC Davis, posting a season-best 39.450—the highest all-around score for Southern Utah this year. Her standout performance included a 9.925 on bars and another 9.875 on floor.
As one of the top all-around gymnasts in the conference, Randolph's consistency and excellence continue to make her an invaluable leader for the Thunderbirds.
Hampton Continues Her Freshman Campaign
Freshman Mia Hampton continued her remarkable first-year campaign with impressive back-to-back performances, helping Southern Utah towin victories over Sacramento State and UC Davis. Against Sacramento State, Hampton shined on vault and floor, earning 9.825 on both events, while also delivering a 9.800 on bars.
She followed up with a career-best all-around performance in the win over UC Davis, posting a 39.250. Hampton excelled across all four events, scoring 9.800 on vault, 9.825 on bars, 9.775 on beam, and a 9.850 on floor.
This marks Hampton's sixth Freshman of the Week honor, further solidifying her as one of the top newcomers in the MPSF.
Thunderbirds Gaining Momentum
With Hampton and Randolph leading the charge, Southern Utah continues to build momentum as they head into the final stretch of the season. Their performances have not only contributed to big road wins but have also positioned them as two of the conference's standout gymnasts as the conference championship approaches. The Flippin' Birds made the jump into the top 25 this week, now sitting at #21.
