Matchup History
The Thunderbirds
With a 6-9 conference record, SUU has secured the seventh spot in the WAC and a guaranteed opportunity to play in the 2025 Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas. Making an impressive run, Southern Utah has won four of their last five games. While they are unable to influence their postseason positioning this week, the Thunderbirds will look to add icing to the cake by looping another win into their recent string of successes.
Since starting conference play, SUU has emerged as one of the WAC's strongest defenses, ranking fourth in defensive scoring and first in both three-point and overall field goal percentage defense. The team has also shut down opposing offenses in the paint, ranking No. 2 in defensive rebounds per conference game and No. 3 in blocked shots.
Showing why she belongs in the Southern Utah record books, graduate guard Daylani Ballena has shined in conference play. Averaging 12.6 points per WAC game, the five-year Thunderbird ranks eighth in assists per game. Adding to the scoring, sophomore forward Ava Uhrich has surpassed 20 points in four games this season.
Graduate forward Lexi Bull has led the charge under the glass, ranking third in rebounding with 8.2 boards per conference game. In addition, graduate guard Samantha Johnston stands at No. 5 in the WAC in three-pointers made per game.
Scouting Report
Seattle University Redhawks
Currently holding the last seed in the conference with a 0-14 WAC record, Seattle U has struggled to find wins in a challenging season. Their last three opponents have beaten them by ten points or more, but the Redhawks clawed for it on the road against SUU earlier this season, playing until the buzzer in a tight 61-57 match.
In conference play, the team ranks last in both offensive and defensive scoring, but has posted solid statistics from the perimeter. Averaging 7.6 triples per conference game, the Thunderbirds will have to focus on containing the three.
Freshman guard Candy Edokpaigbe has served as a bright spot for the Redhawks, averaging a team-high 10.9 points in addition to 4.9 rebounds per game.
Leading the team in rebounds with 5.4 boards per game, graduate forward Christeina Bryan provides a veteran presence to the youth of Edokpaigbe.
