CEDAR CITY, Utah - The Southern Utah University Women's Basketball team closed out the regular season with a 66-51 road victory over Seattle University on March 6. The win pushed Southern Utah to an overall record of 9-20 with a 7-9 Western Athletic Conference record. The Redhawks fell to 3-25 overall with a 0-15 conference record.
Head Coach Tracy Mason Said:
"I thought we played tough tonight. We weathered their run and made our own to close it out. Dayla had a great final homecoming and I thought Jaeden made some big plays for us in the second half."

Daylani Ballena racked up five rebounds, two steals, and a team-high 19 points on 46.2% shooting from the field.

Off the bench, Jaeden Brown tallied 13 points, five rebounds and two steals.

Ava Uhrich dished out three assists and brought down a team-high seven boards during her 10-point performance.
Game Recap
First Half
The Thunderbirds started the matchup on a 6-0 run led by two Lexi Bull buckets before Seattle U battled back to a tie. A Samantha Johnston triple boosted Southern Utah ahead once again, but by the end of the first quarter, SUU led by only one in a 13-12 showdown.
The Redhawks snatched the lead to open the second quarter, but Johnston and Sydney Gandy sank three-pointers to push back ahead. Johnston added her third three before Ballena and Ava Uhrich each chipped in a pair of free throws, putting them up 33-25 before halftime.
Second Half
Despite a strong performance from Seattle U's offense after the break, Ballena captained a Southern Utah scoring spree to extend to a comfortable 53-39 lead. The graduate guard logged 12 of SUU's 20 third-quarter points.
The Redhawks began the final quarter with an 8-0 run to cut their deficit to four, but Jaeden Brown scored 10 fourth-quarter points to lift the Thunderbirds back into the lead for a 66-51 win.

The Thunderbirds will play in the quarterfinal round of the 2025 Hercules Tires WAC Basketball Tournament on Wednesday, March 12 at 2:30 p.m. They will face off against the second seed, which will be decided by the Saturday, March 8 game slate. The postseason tournament will be broadcast live on ESPN+.
