CEDAR CITY, Utah – Former Southern Utah standout Lyle Santos is taking his talents to the next level, receiving an invite to the Las Vegas Raiders Mini Camp following a stellar collegiate career with the Thunderbirds. Santos also received an offer from the Pittsburgh Steelers but chose to stay loyal to his hometown team and childhood dream, electing to pursue his NFL future with the Raiders.
Head Coach DeLane Fitzgerald Said
"Lyle Santos has been a rock for our program — tough, consistent, and a true leader. We're proud of everything he's accomplished and excited to see him continue his journey with the Raiders. He'll represent Southern Utah well."
Santos leaves Southern Utah as one of the most decorated offensive linemen in program history. Over his career, he amassed 47 starts and logged 3,151 total snaps, allowing just one sack over an incredible 1,767 pass-blocking snaps. A consistent force in the trenches, Santos anchored the Thunderbirds' offensive line from the moment he stepped on campus.
This past year as a redshirt senior, Santos started all 12 games and was voted a team captain for the third consecutive season. His dominant play earned him First Team All-UAC honors and a spot on Phil Steele's First Team All-UAC list. He posted an outstanding 85.1 pass-blocking grade according to Pro Football Focus (PFF), ranking 40th among all 583 FBS and FCS guards. Santos played a critical role in paving the way for running back Targhee Lambson, who led the FCS in rushing and shattered Southern Utah's single-season rushing record with 1,922 yards.
Throughout his career, Santos was a model of consistency and leadership. He was named a captain starting in 2021 as a redshirt freshman and held that title every year thereafter. His accolades include multiple All-Conference honors from the WAC, UAC, Bluebloods, FCS Football Central, and Phil Steele publications.
Santos' choice to join the Las Vegas Raiders marks the continuation of his football journey, fittingly in the same city where his football dreams first took root.
The Southern Utah football program congratulates Lyle on this incredible opportunity and looks forward to watching his continued success at the professional level.
