CEDAR CITY, Utah — The Western Athletic Conference (WAC) released its 2025 Academic All-WAC list on Friday, recognizing student-athletes across spring sports, as well as freshmen and transfers from all 2024-25 WAC sports. Southern Utah University saw 70 Thunderbirds earn the prestigious honor, reflecting the department's continued commitment to excellence in both academics and competition.
The largest contingent of SUU honorees came from women's outdoor track and field, which accounted for 24 of the 70 total selections. The program also contributed to the WAC's highest number of spring sport honorees, as women's outdoor track and field led all sports across the league with 168 recognized student-athletes.
To qualify for Academic All-WAC honors, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic year, maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.2 or higher, and participated in at least 50 percent of their team's competitions.
Kayla Kovar, Director of Athletic Academic Performance, Said
"Our team is proud of all the hard work that our student-athletes have put in this spring semester to excel in the classroom, as well as in their respective sport. We applaud these exceptional student-athletes for the time and dedication that they have put into prioritizing their academics, while still managing to meet the high demands of practice and competition."
Across the conference, Utah Valley led all institutions with 162 total honorees, followed by Grand Canyon (130) and Utah Tech (115). The spring sport with the most honorees was women's outdoor track and field (168), followed by baseball (126) and men's outdoor track and field (125). While SUU sponsors fewer spring sports than some of the other top-ranking schools, the Thunderbirds' 70 honorees still represent a strong academic showing and a continued emphasis on student-athlete success.
