CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah University defensive end Lando Brown has been named to the Stats Perform FCS Preseason All-American Second Team, recognizing him as one of the top returning defenders in the country heading into the 2025 season. All 13 FCS conferences and 54 schools are represented among 102 All-Americans, who are spread across three teams.

"Lando is everything you want in a defensive leader. He plays with relentless effort, sets the tone in practice every day, and shows up in the biggest moments. His growth on and off the field has been outstanding, and we're excited to see him take another step forward this season."
Brown, a redshirt senior from Gardena, California, was a dominant force for the Thunderbirds in 2024. He appeared in all 12 games, recording 47 total tackles (27 solo), 10 tackles for loss, four sacks, and 10 quarterback hurries. His performance earned him spots on both the Phil Steele First Team All-UAC and the Second Team All-UAC.
Brown consistently overwhelms opponents with his quickness, motor, and relentless edge pressure. After a strong offseason focused on getting stronger and faster, he's expected to be even more disruptive in 2025.
Before arriving at SUU, Brown made a name for himself at El Camino College, where he became the program's all-time sack leader and single-season sack leader. He was named a Preseason All-American, Defensive Player of the Year, and was one of the most impactful defensive players in California JUCO football.
A standout at Junipero Serra High School, Brown posted 31 sacks and nearly 230 tackles over three varsity seasons, earning multiple All-State and All-Area selections, including two Daily Breeze Defensive Player of the Year honors.
Now entering his final season, Brown is poised to lead a talented Thunderbird defense and build on what's already been a stellar collegiate career.
Southern Utah opens the 2025 season at home against Idaho State on August 30, at 6:30 p.m. MT. This will be the Thunderbirds' final season in the United Athletic Conference before heading to the Big Sky in July of 2026.
