The Thunderbirds Are Finally Back in The AFEC, Hosting UT Arlington

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Men's Basketball team is finally back in Cedar City, Utah, after over a month away from the AFEC. They are scheduled to host UT Arlington at 6:30 p.m.

Head Coach Rob Jeter said

"We are really excited to be back at home, we have been on the road for over a month and we are ready to play in front of all of our great fans."


Matchup History

  • SUU is 2-3 all-time against the Mavericks, with the teams splitting a pair of games last season. Both teams defended home court last year.

The Thunderbirds

Southern Utah is currently on a four-game losing skid, most recently falling to Utah Tech in the WAC opener.

SUU is averaging 77 points per game on 45/30/71 percent shooting splits.

True freshman point guard Elijah Duval still leads the team in scoring at 13.2 points per game. He also leads the team in assists with 47 and steals with 16.

Jaiden Feroah is the only other Thunderbird scoring double-digits; he averages 11.6 on 52% from the floor. Two other T-Birds are just under 10 points per game, Dylan Jones (9.8) and Tanner Hayhurst (9.1).

Jones leads the team with 26 three-pointers made on the year, but Hayhurst isn't far behind with 24.

Feroah and Isaiah Cottrell lead the team with six rebounds per game, and Feroah leads the team and the conference with 31 blocks.


The Mavericks

UTA is currently 9-5 on the year and 1-1 in WAC play, most recently coming off their best win of the season, a 63-51 upset over the WAC Preseason Favorite, California Baptist.

The Mavericks average 71 points per game and are allowing opponents just 63. They are also ranked nationally in opponents' three-point field goal percentage, holding teams to just 24% from behind the arc.

They pull down 38 rebounds, dish 13.5 assists, and come away with eight steals per contest.

Raysean Seamster leads the Mavericks in scoring, averaging 14 per game on 52% from the floor. He also leads the team with 6.8 rebounds per contest.

Marcell McCreary is the only other Maverick averaging double-digits, scoring 12.6 a ball game. He leads the team in three-pointers, making 23 so far on the year at a 34% clip.

Cash Chavis is top-5 in the WAC in assists with 61. And six different Mavericks have at least 10 steals on the year.
