Thunderbirds Aim to Bounce Back Versus ACU After a Tough Loss in Arlington

1/30/2026 1:28:00 PM

CEDAR CITY, UTAH -- The SUU Men's Basketball team has its sights set on Abilene Christian in hopes of its first true road win of the season. Southern Utah fell to 0-13 in true road games after a loss to UT Arlington on Thursday. The Thunderbirds are looking to get back in the win column against ACU on Saturday.

Head Coach Rob Jeter said

"We have proven that we can beat anybody in this league, but we need to be able to win games away from home. And we have a great opportunity to do that versus ACU."

First Matchup

  • The Thundebirds dominated the Wildcats on January 17 in the team's first matchup of the season. SUU held ACU to just 52 points in the 72-52 victory. Jaiden Feroah and Isaiah Cottrell both logged double-doubles in the victory, and five different T-Birds scored in double figures.

The Thunderbirds

SUU struggled to score the ball versus UT Arlington. Logging just 61 points in the 19-point loss, which is the second-fewest points scored in a conference game for the T-Birds.

The Thunderbirds had their best defensive game of the year against Abilene Christian. Holding the Wildcats to just 52 points and an incredible 23% from the field and 16% from three. SUU scored 40 points in the paint and had 17 points off ACU turnovers.

Jaiden Feroah still leads the Thunderbirds in both scoring (13.6) and rebounding (6.9). His season shooting splits are an outstanding 54/41/90.

Elijah Duval has been great in the last two games for SUU. He is now averaging 12.9 points per game and just under four rebounds. He also leads the team with 74 assists and 26 steals.

The trio of shooters consisting of Dylan Jones, Tanner Hayhurst, and Jalen (Roc) Lee has been monumental for SUU's success. The three combine for nearly 100 made triples on the year.

The Wildcats

ACU is currently on a four-game losing streak, including the loss to the Thunderbirds on January 17. ACU had a game versus Tarleton State that had to be postponed due to weather issues in Texas. So ACU has played just one game since they faced the Thunderbirds nearly two weeks ago.

ACU has a very impressive win on its resume, destroying Utah Valley 85-68 in its second conference game of the year. But it has been an uphill battle for the Wildcats since that game.

Bradyn Hubbard leads ACU in scoring (15.7) and rebounding (5.0). Rich Smith has consistently given the Thunderbirds problems, particularly on defense. Smith averages 10 points per game and has 93 assists on the year to go along with 35 steals.

Five different Wildcats have at least 20 steals on the year. ACU plays a physical style of defense and likes to create turnovers.
