Floyd Chalk Named Big Sky Offensive Player of the Week

CEDAR CITY, Utah – Southern Utah senior Floyd Chalk has been named the Big Sky Conference Offensive Player of the Week after his performance in Saturday's 38-17 win over No. 14 UC Davis.

Head Football Coach DeLane Fitzgerald Said

"Floyd ran really hard and did a great job taking advantage of what was there," Fitzgerald said. "He's a physical back who runs with a lot of toughness, and when he gets going downhill, he's tough to bring down. He's earned this recognition, and our staff is happy for him. He's been a big part of what we're doing offensively."

Chalk running the ballChalk ran for a career-high 212 yards on 26 carries, averaging 8.2 yards per carry with a 37-yard touchdown. It was the first 200-yard rushing game by a Thunderbird since Joshua Dye ran for 221 yards against Eastern Kentucky on Nov. 8, 2025. Chalk's previous career high was 183 yards in SUU's 47-42 win over Weber State on Sept. 5.

Chalk's biggest run came in the fourth quarter. With the Thunderbirds leading 24-17, he broke loose up the middle for a 37-yard touchdown at 10:12 to make it a two-score game, 31-17. After the defense stopped UC Davis on fourth-and-2 at the SUU 22 with five minutes to play, Chalk took the first snap 35 yards, setting up Will Burns' 41-yard touchdown run two plays later that sealed the win. Chalk also caught one pass for 7 yards.

Southern Utah scored 29 straight points in the second half to earn its first win over UC Davis since 2017 and its first win over a ranked opponent since last season.

Chalk has rushed for at least 100 yards in all seven games this season. He has 1,035 rushing yards, an average of 147.9 per game, and is Southern Utah's third straight 1,000-yard rusher after Targhee Lambson in 2024 and Dye in 2025.

A transfer from San Jose State, Chalk is a native of Mission Hills, Calif., and played at Bishop Alemany High School.
