Cedar City, Utah - The Southern Utah University cross country teams finished strong at home during the Color Country Invitational on Saturday, Oct. 3. The men's team finished second, followed by the women's team, who rallied for a fourth-place finish.
Head Coach Isaac Wood said,
"Despite some surprisingly hot temperatures for this time of year, I was really pleased with the efforts of our teams, both the men's and women's. Both of them executed the unique race plans, and I was happy with how we finished the races as a whole."
"I'm grateful for a wonderful staff who helped put on a great home competition, and for all the fans that came out to support."
Men's 7K Recap
The men's team finished second out of a field of six, splitting in-state rivals Utah Valley University (16) and Utah Tech University (72), with a team score of 42. All SUU runners finished inside the top 20.
Senior Logan Peel led the way for the Thunderbirds in fifth place with a time of 22:21.82. A string of SUU runners followed Peel: Chase Evans finished seventh (22:29.09), Parker Barnes snared eighth (22:29.67), and Amit Cohen captured ninth (22:33.63), to round out top 10 finishes.
Junior Tyler Saunders crossed the line in 13th with a time of 22:42.46. Jacob Russell (22:50.81) and Dax Daley (22:59.7) rounded out the SUU runners, finishing 15th and 18th, respectively.

Women's 5K Recap
The women's team collected a fourth-place finish with a team score of 95. The Thunderbirds finished behind in-state rivals UVU (19), Utah Tech (66), and out-of-state opponent Fort Lewis College (91).
Sophomore Aspen Hacker led the Thunderbirds in fifth place, crossing the line at 18:43.47. Nixie Killpack crossed the line next for SUU with a time of 19:09.27 for a 14th-place finish. Adelaide Englestead took 29th (20:00.42), Kennedy Swain placed 31st (20:01.54), and Brooklyn Tarr wound up 32nd (20:03.21).

SUU will compete next in the Pacific Northwest at the Bill Dellinger Invite hosted by the University of Oregon in Eugene, Ore., Oct. 9. The men will race an 8K slated to start at 12:15 p.m. MST, followed by the women racing a 6K at 1 p.m. MST.
