Softball Season Ends with Close Loss to UVU

Southern Utah Softball is Presented by Jennifer Davis ERA Realty

CEDAR CITY, Utah — Southern Utah fell 2-1 in another close matchup with Utah Valley. The Thunderbirds out hit the Wolverines on the day but couldn't come up with the critical blow, leaving six runners stranded. Southern Utah finishes the season with a 21-30 overall record.

The T-Birds were led at the plate by Taralyn Ollison, who picked up two hits and an RBI. Kassidy Munoz also tallied two hits in the game, including a double. Freshmen McKenzy Becerra and Alayana Ma'Ake also hit successfully in the game.

The Thundebirds pitchers held a potent UVU offense to just four hits in the game. Sophomore Hannah Duncan was tagged with the loss, pitching 4.2 innings and allowing two runs on three hits and keeping the T-Birds within range the whole way.

Coach Don Don Williams Said

"I'm incredibly proud of this team. We fought hard all year, battled through a ton of adversity, and stuck together like family. Our season ended today, but the way we competed and bonded will stay with us forever."

Game Summary

The Thunderbirds got runners on in both of the first two innings but were unable to drive them in against the tough pitching of Lily Riley.

Utah Valley took the lead in the top of the third inning on a two-out home run to make the score 1-0. The Wolverines extended the lead to 2-0 on another solo home run in the top of the fourth.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, Taralyn Ollison stepped to the plate with runners on the corners and two outs. Ollison drove a single down the left field line to score the runner from third and cut the deficit in half.

The Thunderbirds just didn't have enough offense as UVU would hold on the rest of the way for the 2-1 final score.

On Deck

Coach Williams and her staff will turn their attention to the offseason recruiting grind. The Thunderbirds will return an experienced lineup, with only two seniors departing this season. Stay tuned for more information on the 2027 Thunderbirds throughout the summer.
