SUU Baseball Season Comes to an End Following 11-4 Defeat at Oakland

ROCHESTER, Mich. - May 22 - Southern Utah had not been swept in a conference season all year until the Thunderbirds fell 11-4 to the Oakland Golden Grizzlies on Saturday afternoon.  The loss punctuates the season for the T-Birds with an overall mark of 18-36 and 11-16 mark in Summit League play.

A two-run first and four-run second gave Oakland an early lead in the game with the 6-0 lead holding through the fifth inning.  The Thunderbirds put their first lights on the board in the top of the sixth inning as Bo Cuthbertson led off the frame with a solo home run over the right field fence.

However, OU answered with a run in the bottom of the sixth to maintain the six-run advantage.

A lead off single by Taylor Shaw and a walk drawn by Tyler Hogge put men on first and second to begin the seventh inning for Southern Utah.  The runners then advanced to second and third on a wild pitch with no outs in the frame.  Shaw crossed home plate on the very next at bat on an RBI ground ball by Mitchell Kauweloa.

Chase Rezac drew a walk during the next at bat and with men on first and second, Bo Cuthbertson hit a record-breaking, two-run double into the gap in left center field.  The double was Cuthbertson's 21st of the season, marking a new single-season school records in doubles.

However, it was the final runs that would cross the plate for the Thunderbirds during the afternoon as Oakland put one run on the board in the seventh and three runs on the board in the eighth for the eventual 11-4 victory.
