SAAC Mission Statement

Mission Statement:

The Mission of the Southern Utah University Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (S.A.A.C.) is to:

I. Fairly and equally represent the Student-Athletes of the Institution by encouraging involvement and advocating their interests both locally and nationally,

II. Serve as ambassadors to the student body and encourage participation in athletic events,

III. Develop a positive relationship with the community and provide meaningful service.

Article I - Name

The name of the organization shall be the Student Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC). SAAC is a student organization at Southern Utah University made up exclusively of intercollegiate student athletes.

Article II - Objective
a. Fairly and equally represent the Student-Athletes of the Institution by encouraging involvement and advocating their interests both locally and nationally,
b. Serve as ambassadors to the student body and encourage participation in athletic events,
c. Develop a positive relationship with the community and provide meaningful service.

Article III - Membership
d. Any student-athlete at Southern Utah University is eligible to be an active member and hold office.
e. All representatives have the right to vote on all matters and are eligible for all offices.
f. All student-athlete representatives must be full-time students in accordance with NCAA, Athletic Conference, and Southern Utah University rules and regulations, be listed on the team roster, and adhere to the team's code of conduct. Failure to fulfill these requirements will disqualify a representative.

Article IV - Structure

a. Each team shall have no less than one but no more than two voting student athlete representatives. Teams may have additional non-voting appointees.

b. The representatives for each team shall be chosen at the discretion of the team in the manner of that team's choosing.

c. All representatives shall serve for a term of one full academic year beginning Fall Semester. Representatives may serve more than one term.

d. SAAC executive board shall consist of: President, Vice President, Secretary, and Treasurer. 
      i. These officers shall be elected during Spring Semester for the following academic year. A call for nominations shall be made. All current SAAC representatives may make nominations. Self nominations are accepted. A simple majority vote by all present representatives shall be sufficient for election to office.
      ii. The duties of the executive board shall be determined by its officers in conjunction with the Athletics Department staff advisor.

e. The Student Athlete Advisory Committee may at the discretion of the executive board form committees for specific purposes. These committees shall be directed by a committee chair elected from within by the members of that committee.

f. The SAAC shall hold one-two meetings per month. All representatives are required to attend and shall appoint a replacement from their team in the event they are unable to attend. The president reserves the right to call additional meetings when necessary.

g. The executive board and committees may hold additional meetings as deemed necessary by the president and the committee chairs.

h. Parliamentary procedure shall be followed at all meetings.

i. A member of the Athletics Department staff shall serve as non-voting advisor to the SAAC.

Article V - Not-for-profit Statement
This is a not-for-profit organization.

Article VI - Statement of Non-discrimination
This organization shall not discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, age, sexual orientation, marital status, national origin, or disability. This policy includes, but is not limited to, recruiting, memberships, organizational activities, and opportunities to hold office.

Article VII - Compliance Statement
This organization shall comply with all university and campus policies and regulations and local, state, and federal laws.
