Assistant Coach | Defensive Ends

Durining the 2023 campaign, Magginson helped the Thunderbirds to achieve a 6-5 record, the first winning season since 2017 for Southern Utah. Additionally Magginson has coached several players over the last two seasons who have received accolades from both the WAC and the United Athletic Conference. 

In the 2022 season, Magginson helped lead the Thunderbirds to a 5-6 overall record with a 2-3 mark in Western Athletic Conference play. Magginson helped prepare Francis Bemiy for the CFL draft where he was selected 9th overall by the BC Lions. 

Shawn Magginson coaches the defensive ends coach at SUU. Before ariving in Cedar City, Magginson spent four years as a coach on the Frostburg State University staff, working with the entirety of the defensive line. Magginson was a four-year player for the Bobcat football team and appeared in all 13 games and made two starts as a senior. He finished fourth on the team with 46 tackles, including four tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks. He also added one interception, one forced and one recovered fumble.
