The Southern Utah University athletic department and director of athletics Debbie Corum have announced the hiring of Raleigh Grossbaum as the new head coach of the Thunderbird men’s tennis program.
“Raleigh will be a great addition to our coaching staff,” Corum said. “When he visited campus, he distinguished himself as he learned as much as possible about our community, the university, the athletic department, and the men’s tennis team. Among his strengths are his ability to develop players and we are confident that his skills will be an asset to the success of the team.”
Grossbaum will move to Cedar City from Orlando, Florida where he currently is on staff as a tennis instructor at GreatBase Tennis. Prior to working for GreatBase Tennis, Grossbaum was a Teaching Professional at the United States Tennis Association’s National Campus in Orlando where he helped to develop players with the use of performance analytics.
“Southern Utah University is an amazing place to build a tennis program,” Grossbaum said. “The athletic department is made up of a top notch staff with great energy and drive. Cedar City is a beautiful town, filled with genuine citizens who show great support for the university and its athletics. With an emphasis on character, work ethic and team unity we will develop an excellent culture that will lead to exceptional results. I believe this team has the potential to become a perennial force in the Big Sky Conference and the NCAA.”
Grossbaum played his collegiate tennis at Ferris State University in Big Rapids, Michigan. He helped the Bulldogs to three Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference men’s tennis championships, two NCAA Division II Elite Eight appearances, and a NCAA Division II Final Four appearance in 2017.
Grossbaum graduated from Ferris State in 2017 with a Bachelor’s of Science in Professional Tennis Management.
