Steven Champlin

Steven Champlin joined the Southern Utah Coaching staff in the fall of 2024. He comes to Cedar City with experience at Northern Arizona University, Louisiana Tech University, and Ohio University. After starting his coaching career as a volunteer assistant at NAU in 2019, Champlin then moved on to Louisiana Tech, where he coached Men's and Women's Sprints, Hurdles, and Multis from 2019-2022. During this time, his athletes achieved personal bests and school records, such as Ahmad Young’s 13.76 in the 110m hurdles and Johannon Murray's C-USA Championship-winning heptathlon score of 4937. At Ohio University, Champlin’s athletes set multiple school records, including a 3.65m pole vault and a 3:49.97 indoor 4x400m relay.

A Texas native, Champlin was the 2014 4A state champion in the 400m dash. He went on to compete for Texas Tech University, where he earned First Team All-American honors three times and set personal bests of 45.01 in the 400m and 20.89 in the 200m. Champlin also secured 12 All-Big 12 honors and a Big 12 indoor championship in 2018.

Champlin holds a bachelor's degree in psychology and athletic coaching from Texas Tech University and a master's degree in film and media studies from Arizona State University.
