Derek Boosey has had a long association with track and field representing Great Britain as an athlete in 35 Internationals including the 1968 Mexico Olympic Games (1962-1972) in the triple jump (16.22m/53'2 1/2"). He has also won World Masters gold, silver, and bronze medals in different age categories, even triple jumping 14.03m/46'1/2" at the age of 45 years.
He has previously worked at three universities: Sussex University (England) as a the Deputy Director of Sport and Recreation, Melbourne University (Australia) as the Director of Sport and Recreation, and Newcastle University (Australia) as the Executive Officer Convocation. Other sports related jobs were Cheif Administrator-Operations, Brisbane (Australia) XII Commonweath Games, Adviser to the Seoul 1986 Asian Games/1988 Olympic Games Organizing Committees, the 1992 Barcelona Olympic Games Organizing Committee, Event marketing for Nike, and the Director of Marketing, Athletics Canada.
In coaching, Derek was the jumps/combined events head coach for Canada (1974-76), head coach for Saudi Arabia (1976-77), combined events head coach for Australia (1980-84), jumps/combined events for Korea (1984-88), and Adviser for China from 1989-90 in the jumps combined events. Under his "watch" as a coach of coaches/athletes they have won Olympic gold and silver and several gold, silver and bronze medals at the Asian Games. On behalf of the International Athletics World Governing Body, he has conducted seminars in Australia, Fiji, Korea, Philippines, Brunei, East Malaysia, Indonesia, Taiwan, Singapore, and Sri Lanka. He has also attended nine Olympic games in various capacities.
Derek and his wife Elisabeth live in Cedar City, have three grown sons and Elisabeth teaches in the University ESL Department.
