Kim Beeston is under her second year as an assistant coach for the Southern Utah women's basketball team. Prior to joining the Thunderbird family, Beeston played for Brigham Young University, guiding the Cougars in a run at the 2014 NCAA Championship Tournament.
Beeston took a medical redshirt after suffering season-ending injury early in her first season at BYU before bouncing back for four healthy, successful years as a Cougar. As a freshman, Beeston was named MWC Player of the Week and finished second on the team from the 3-point line with a 39.2% average. As a sophomore, Beeston concluded the year third in scoring (9.5 points per game), second in assists (3.3 per game) and second in steals (1.3 per game). Beeston started her first collegiate game vs. No. 8 Duke where she led the Cougars with 14 points, six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Beeston's game continued to explode as she recorded 20 games scoring in double figures throughout her Junior year.
As a senior, Beeston led BYU through postseason play to the Sweet 16 where the Cougars took on #1 UConn. BYU trailed UConn by just one at the half before UConn extended its lead in the second half to seal the victory. Beeston led the Cougars in the loss with 16 points, including a 4-8 performance from the 3-point line. Following the NCAA run, Beeston was named to the College Sports Madness WCC Second Team, WCC All-Academic Team, WCC Women's Basketball Honorable Mention Selection and was named College Sports Madness West Coast Player of the Week on Feb. 24, 2014. Beeston rounded out her BYU career ranked 10th all-time in assists with 381, fourth in 3-pointers with 250 and tied for first place all-time in games played with 143. Beeston recorded her career high assists with 10 against USF and in points with 27 against LMU after shooting 9-11 from beyond the arch, which tied BYU's single game 3-pointers made record. Leading the Cougars from the 3-point line, Beeston concluded her final season with a 40.2%.
Before her BYU years, Beeston led Wasatch High School in back-to-back state titles (2008 and 2009). Following her 2009 championship, Beeston was named Female Athlete of the Year, First Team All-Region for the fourth time, Ms. Basketball, and was nominated for both the McDonalds All-America team and the Gatorade Player of the Year.
After coaching players on all levels through sporting camps, both institutionally and individually, Beeston is ready and eager to coach at the collegiate level.
