Erik Nelson, a dedicated Athletic Trainer, is driven by his commitment to providing exceptional care to the student-athletes at Southern Utah University. Originally hailing from Idaho, Erik embarked on his journey to join the SUU Thunderbirds in 2014. After several years of hard work, he earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Athletic Training in 2020. Returning to SUU in the Spring of 2021, Erik served as an Intern Athletic Trainer, collaborating with athletes across various sports.
After completing the spring semester, Erik transitioned to the realm of hospital-based care, where he worked in the operating room, assisting in surgeries alongside skilled medical professionals devoted to exemplary patient care. In July 2022, he rejoined SUU as a Full-Time Assistant Athletic Trainer, focusing on volleyball and softball.
Continuing his educational pursuits, Erik attained a Master of Education in Physical Education from the University of Arkansas in December 2023. In addition to his professional endeavors, he has participated in, officiated, and coached various sports, including rugby, soccer, and wrestling.
During his leisure time, Erik indulges in outdoor activities such as hunting, trapping, fishing, and hiking. However, his greatest joy lies in spending quality time with his wife, Katlynn, and their two children, Kingston and Presley.
