Shaye Springall is an accomplished coach and former track and field athlete with a remarkable career in the sport. A Cedar City native, Shaye grew up loving SUU and felt blessed to attend college in her hometown.

Shaye's journey in track and field began in high school, where she won 9 state titles, set state records in the 200m, 100m hurdles and 300m hurdles, and was the Great Southwest Champion in the heptathlon in 2009. That success carried her to SUU, where she competed in multi-events and hurdles and became a standout athlete for the Thunderbirds.

During her collegiate career, Shaye set 9 school records and still holds 6 of them today. In 2010, she was honored as the Summit League Conference Women's Indoor Track and Field Newcomer of the Championship. In 2011, she became an NCAA All-Academic Women's Track and Field National Team member. Her success continued to soar as she earned Big Sky Conference Championship Women's Track and Field MVP of the Meet in 2014, scoring 34 points.

Shaye's prowess in the 60m hurdles was particularly remarkable. She became the Big Sky Conference Champion in the 60m hurdles in 2014, and her Big Sky Conference all-time and meet record in the event still stands today. Her talent also extended to other disciplines, as she achieved top rankings in the Big Sky Conference for the pentathlon, 60m hurdles, 55m hurdles, 100m hurdles, 60m, and heptathlon. On the international stage, her 2014 time of 8.19 in the 60m hurdles ranked her 65th in the world that year.

After graduating from SUU with a Finance degree in 2014, Shaye continued to pursue her athletic career, qualifying for the 2017 USA Indoor National Championships in the 60m hurdles.

In 2016, Shaye was hired as Director of Operations for Track and Field and Cross Country, where she has been instrumental in organizing meets and securing opportunities for athletes to compete in prestigious events. She now also serves as an assistant coach for sprints, hurdles and jumps, and loves being able to help the team in this expanded role.

Shaye took over the Track Attack youth program in 2016 and loves coaching the kids every summer. The program has blown up with over 250 athletes who are all learning how to throw, hurdle, jump, sprint, and run far!

Off the track, Shaye is married to Brent Springall, who was also a multi-event athlete at SUU alongside Shaye and coached jumps/sprints at SUU from 2012–2021. Together, they have three daughters: Roxana, Phoebe and Violet.

With her extensive experience as both an athlete and a coach, Shaye Springall continues to inspire and guide the next generation of track and field athletes at Southern Utah University.
