Logan Petty

Logan Petty enters his fifth season with the Southern Utah Track & Field / Cross Country staff as an assistant distance coach after joining the Thunderbirds in the Fall of 2021. Since joining the Thunderbird's staff, Coach Petty has helped guide the program to over 110 all conference performances, 8 individual conference titles, 1 team conference title, 4 NCAA individual Championship qualifiers, 1 NCAA qualifying team, and 3 All-Americans. During Coach Petty's time at Southern Utah the men's cross country program has ranked as high as 9th place nationally out of 319 teams in the country.

Coach Petty is a former Division I athlete, competing for Utah Valley University in both track & field and cross country where he completed his Bachelors degree in Exercise Science & Outdoor Recreation. As an athlete at UVU Coach Petty competed in the long distance events, specializing in the 5,000m and 10,000m distances. Throughout his career he collected 8 All-Conference honors, as well as contributing to 6 team conference titles.

Upon graduation, Coach Petty was added to the Wolverine's track & field / cross country staff, where he coached from 2017 to 2019. During his time at UVU he assisted a total of over 60 all-conference performances, including 10 individual conference titles, and 1 team championship.

Since graduation Coach Petty has continued his education by obtaining a Master's Degree in Sports Conditioning and Performance here at Southern Utah University. He has also continued his athletic career by transitioning to road racing. From 2018 to 2021 Coach Petty competed semi-professionally for the Utah Running Elite racing team. He holds personal bests of 1:07:43 in the half marathon and 2:23:30 in the full marathon.

In his 9 years of coaching at the Division I level Coach Petty has seen a total of over 170 all-conference performances, 19 conference titles - including 2 team titles, 5 national appearances - including 1 team qualification, and 3 All-American titles.

Logan and his wife Mallory reside in Cedar City. Mallory is also a former Division I athlete, having competed in track and cross country for Weber State University where she studied nursing. Together they have two children, Paisley and Boston. They are expecting their third child in the Fall of 2026.
