Robin Butler

Robin Butler joined the Thunderbirds Track & Field coaching staff in the Fall of 2020 as a volunteer assistant. Butler is a former collegiate athlete from Western Colorado University, where he competed for the Mountaineer Track & Field team.

During his time at Western Colorado, Butler was a decathlete, competing in nearly every track & field event, excluding the triple jump, hammer throw, and some distance events.

Butler compiled an impressive career with the Mountaineers, finishing his career as a five-time Division II All-American, with four of those honors coming from his performances in the 800m and one stemming from his performance in the distance medley relay event.

Butler is recognized as one of the greatest track & field athletes in Western Colorado history and still holds school records for the preseason 600m, as well as the indoor 800m with a time of 1:52.24.

As a coach, Butler spent time at Greenway High School prior to joining the SUU staff, where he served as the assistant coach for the track & field and cross country teams.

Butler earned a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Western Colorado University in May of 2017.
