Southern Utah University Athletics

Christy Florence is a third generation T-bird with deep ties to the University. Her grandpa played football here for the then BAC (Branch Agricultural College) and her parents met here on campus when her father came to then CSU (College of Southern Utah) on a wrestling scholarship and her mother was a Physical Education major. After graduating from SUU in 1996, Christy worked for a couple of years in the criminal justice field and then stayed home for 15 years raising her to raise her two children. When she decided to return to the workforce, she wanted to do something that would make a difference. She spent eight years working with ESL (English as a Second Language Students) and developed a passion for advocating for the underserved groups. 

When she started a master degree in 2019, knowing she and her husband would be empty nesters soon, she had a strong desire to move into a college setting working with students whose backgrounds would make pursuing a college degree difficult. In October 2020 she transitioned from K-12 schools to SUU as the academic coordinator for TriO Student Support Services and absolutely loved it and the students. In September of 2022, the opportunity arose to move into the Athletic Department as the Director for Compliance. Christy jumped at the chance as she feels a strong connection to T-Bird athletics, it is part of her family legacy. 

For fun she loves road tripping with her family and visiting National Parks throughout the USA. She is an avid college football and men's professional tennis fan.
