Southern Utah University Athletics

Gabi Brooks joined the Southern Utah University athletic department as the Director of New Media in September of 2021. She oversees all Thunderbird social media accounts as well as all aspects of photography for the athletic department.

Brooks has led the social media content planning for all 13 Thunderbird sports teams and has significantly increased the overall interactions and followers for each program’s social media accounts since her arrival. In her first nine months with SUU athletics, the Southern Utah football Instagram account saw a 22.3% growth in followers; additionally, in January the SUU Football Twitter account saw its largest single-month growth in followers, adding 1,000 throughout the month alone. The Southern Utah Men’s Basketball Twitter account has had a total of 3,152,400 impressions since Brooks’ arrival, the most in any nine-month period for that account.

Before coming to Southern Utah, Brooks was the primary photographer and editor for Northwest Missouri State Athletics from January 2020 to May 2021. While in that role, she was a part of a Division II men’s basketball national championship in the 2020-2021 season. Brooks also held the same role for the Northwest Missourian newspaper, where she covered the Bearcats football team that reached the quarterfinals of the 2019 Division II playoffs. 

A native of Kansas City, Missouri, Brooks earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Human Services from Northwest Missouri State University.
