Logan Petty

Logan Petty is the newest addition to the Southern Utah Track & Field/Cross Country staff, joining as an assistant coach in the Fall of 2022. Petty is a former Division I athlete, competing for Utah Valley University in both track & field and cross country.

As an athlete at UVU Coach Petty competed in long distance events specializing in the 5,000m and the 10,000m run, with personal bests of 14:37 and 30:42 respectively. Throughout his career he collected 8 All-WAC honors, as well as contributing to 6 team conference titles.

Upon graduation from UVU, Petty was added to the Wolverine track & field/cross country coaching staff, where he served as a volunteer assistant coach for four seasons. During his time at Utah Valley, Petty assisted in a total of 60 all-conference performances, including 10 individual conference champions, and 1 team championship.

From 2019 to 2021 Coach Petty lived in Davis County Utah managing a running store and working as a private coach, training athletes for marathons.

Since graduation, Coach Petty has continued his athletic career on the roads competing in marathons and half-marathons. Coach Petty holds a personal best of 1:07:43 in the half marathon, and 2:23:30 in the full marathon.

Since joining the staff at Southern Utah, Coach Petty has assisted the Thunderbirds to 25 all-conference performances, including 3 conference champions. During his time at SUU the Thunderbirds have seen 1 team berth to the NCAA championships in cross country, and 2 individual berths to NCAA championships including 2 All-American performances. In addition, Petty has seen 3 all-region performers in cross country, and 3 regional qualifiers in track & field.

Petty received a Bachelor’s Degree in Exercise Science from Utah Valley University in 2017, and is currently finishing his Master's Degree in Sports Conditioning and Performance. Logan and his wife Mallory reside in Cedar City with their two children, Paisley and Boston.
