Taylor McQuillin, a distinguished pitcher and professional athlete, was appointed as the Associate Head Coach for the Southern Utah University (SUU) Thunderbirds softball team this past offseason. Known for her exceptional skills and experience on the field, McQuillin brings a wealth of expertise to her role, where she aims to elevate the program and develop players both on and off the field.
McQuillin had a stellar collegiate career at the University of Arizona, where she was a four-year scholarship athlete. She earned numerous accolades, including being named a 2019 NFCA First Team All-American, a three-time NFCA All-Region selection, and a four-time All-PAC12 honoree. In 2018, she led the NCAA in shutouts with 15 and was a top 25 finalist for USA Player of the Year in 2017.
In addition to her collegiate success, McQuillin has an extensive professional career. She has been a key player for Athletes Unlimited since the league's inception in 2020, consistently ranking among the top performers. McQuillin was drafted by the AUSL Bandits during last years inaugural season. Notably, she ranked second in the Athletes Unlimited league's point total for the 2024 season and was selected as a captain for week two.
McQuillin's international experience includes competing as a member of the Mexican National Olympic Team at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics. She also played two seasons in Japan's JD League with the Hitachi Sundiva, where she contributed to consecutive postseason appearances.
Her coaching career began at her alma mater, Arizona, where she served as a graduate assistant. There, she played a significant role in developing the team's pitchers and helping the Wildcats achieve a 41-15 record and a Women's College World Series appearance.
McQuillin helped lead the 2025 team to a third place regular season finish in the WAC and a second straight WAC tournament appearance. The Thunderbirds finished with a 13-11 conference record and had two players earn all conference honors. The 2025 team also surged academically with three players earning CSC Academic All-District honors.
